This movie is thought provoking plunging us into life and death issues. Differing reactions among the characters are felt and explored. Tuck Everlasting poses the idea of living forever and what that might look like. The Tucks and Winnie, who now feels like a part of the family, devise a plan to save Mae, the secret water and Winnie. Mae Tuck, Miles and Jesse's loving mother, is jailed and sentenced to hanging for this. The Man in the Yellow Suit discovers the Tuck family, threatens them and finds himself knocked unconscious. The Man in the Yellow Suit is accused of kidnapping Winnie, and although he didn't do it, he uses the situation to further his agenda. Meanwhile, Winnie's parents are beside themselves with worry over their daughter's disappearance. The Tuck family now feel that their secret is in jeopardy and that they must charm Winnie into keeping the secret, and themselves safe. She tries to get a drink of the water and suddenly finds herself captured by Jesse's older brother Miles! Drama heightens as Winnie is startled and intrigued by Jesse. Winnie becomes lost and eventually stumbles upon Jesse Tuck who is drinking from a pool of water at the base of a tree. This is the last straw for Winnie and she runs away into the woods.
Foster decide to send Winnie away to boarding school so that she may become a refined young lady. He is searching intently for them, but Winnie and her mother who has heard the stranger's voice and hurried out, tell him nothing and he quickly leaves. The Man in the Yellow Suit inquires about some people he refers to as friends. He is a bit sinister and is quite focused on his purpose. One evening Winnie is out of doors trying to capture fireflies when a strange man in a yellow suit calls to her from the fence. Foster continually frets over Winnie's clothing, appearance and personal development. The setting is the turn of the century and Winnie seems to be saddled with an uptight Victorian mother. Winnie, played by Alexis Bledel, seems bored and annoyed with her mother's constant calls. As the movie opens, we immediately meet young Winnie who is shown relaxing in a lush grass yard. The author, Natalie Babbitt sought to pose the idea of whether immortality was a good idea or a path to much pain.
